The Velammal group of educational institutions is the realization of a poor widow’s dream that someday her son would make a difference in the life of the underprivileged and work to positively change and influence the community for good. Being inspired by his mother’s vision and passion, Sri M V Muthuramalingam was persuaded in the direction of imparting quality education with social justice, directing young minds to think critically and to think for themselves and pursue their dreams with passion and make a difference in their societies.

These dreams began to realize under much difficulty and many constraints. In the year 1986, our first school began in Mugappair, Chennai under a thatched roof with 183 children and 13 staff members. We are now a proud family of over 90,000 students and 8,500 staff members imparting education in various places across Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Madurai, Theni, Karur and Shivagangai districts.

We gratefully attribute our astounding success and accolades in all of our endeavours so far to our high ideals, inculcating uncompromisingly high standards in education, regularity, punctuality, research and innovation, right communication skills, environment, and human values. It was also made possible by our educators who have overcome challenges through integrity, selfless service, and loyalty.

This legacy born out of a poor widow’s dream is now a tall and imposing structure which is creating history with every step that it is taking. Our efforts speak for themselves in the passionate services and incredible achievements of the many proud ‘Velammalians’ in our communities and abroad.

To uphold the social values while helping the society to develop technologically and morally by providing education of global standards, thus bringing about emancipation in the society through knowledge and wisdom.
